Background
This symposium, part of the 5th International Conference on Financial Technology and Business Analysis (ICFTBA 2026), examines how the integration of strategic management and business analytics shapes organizational decision-making. Organisations increasingly operate in environments where competitive advantage depends on turning complex data into strategic choices and implementable solutions. Business analytics now informs market sensing, operational efficiency, customer insight, workforce planning, risk management and innovation. At the same time, strategic management models remain essential for interpreting where value is created, how capabilities are configured and why particular enterprise solutions are viable. Yet many managers and students encounter analytics and strategy as separate domains: analytics as technical reporting, and strategy as conceptual diagnosis. This symposium addresses the gap between analytical capability, strategic reasoning and practical enterprise solution design.
Goal/Rationale
The symposium aims to help participants connect business analytics with strategic management models to diagnose organisational problems and develop data-driven enterprise solutions. The central problem is not a shortage of data, but the difficulty of translating data into defensible strategic insight and feasible action. Recent advances in business intelligence platforms, predictive analytics, visualisation tools and AI-supported decision systems have expanded what organisations can analyse, but they also raise questions about data quality, interpretation, accountability and implementation. Through interactive discussion and applied exercises, participants will examine how models such as SWOT/TOWS, PESTLE, Porter’s Five Forces, value chain analysis, the resource-based view, balanced scorecard and business model analysis can be strengthened through evidence. The symposium will emphasise analytical judgement rather than tool demonstration alone: participants will learn how to ask better business questions, select relevant data, interpret patterns critically and translate insights into enterprise-level recommendations.
Scope and Information for Participants
The symposium welcomes academics, doctoral researchers, students, managers, consultants and enterprise practitioners interested in evidence-based decision-making. Contributions and discussions may address: business analytics for strategic diagnosis; data visualisation and storytelling; analytics for customer, workforce, operations or financial decisions; integrating strategic management models with empirical evidence; AI-enabled analytics and responsible decision-making; enterprise solution design; implementation barriers; and teaching or training analytics for business audiences. The format will combine short academic inputs, facilitated discussion, a mini case-analysis activity and group development of a data-driven enterprise solution. Participants do not need advanced technical programming knowledge, but should be prepared to engage with business problems, analytical reasoning and strategic recommendation design.
